A moving reccord (pun intended). First, Mathias Delplanque made field recordings in transportation-related locations (train stations, harbours, parking lots, etc.) and in a call centre in India (which deserves Europe and America, hence its ties to the “transportation” theme). Then, he “moved” these recordings to his living room, playing them at home and recording that playback to embed domestic sounds in it. On paper, this idea offer an interesting reflection on translation, chance of scenery, and recontextualization. On record, it’s a surprisingly subtle work. It is often hard to tell what sound belongs to which realm, and you often forget altogether thast there are two levels in presence. Strong, immersive work that dephazes your perception in a nice way. Bravo.
