“Apparatus” sound installation

Marc Behrens shows a new sound installation in Copenhagen, at IMO gallery, Ny Carlsberg Vej 68, May 28 through June 10, 2010. An artist talk took place on May 31.

The work is featured in Phonebox, a series of 12 exhibitions. Phonebox is located in a former phone cabin, which will serve as an intimate exhibition space with room for only one person at a time.

Behrens’ new work APPARATUS is heard from two distinct sources at once. While the public is invited to listen to the sound over the headphones, a different layer of sound is at the same time transmitted over speakers installed in the small room. This technique creates a sonic and spatial dynamic where different layers blend and overlap. The work explores parallel perception, multiple viewpoints, displacement and asymmetric sound spatialization.

New CD release: “Crónica L” – celebrating 50 releases

Crónica is publishing its 50th release, and celebrating it with a new compilation CD to be freely distributed to all the subscribers of the Neural magazine.

Never a label to take things for granted or to act on the safe side, Crónica proposed 18 artists and projects to develop original collaborations, pairing them in unexpected and potentially fruitful ways. The outcome of this process can be heard in the 9 tracks of “Crónica L” and it presents an overview of the aesthetic scope of the label and the artists it releases, while offering a few good surprises.

More than being a retrospect of the seven-plus years of activity of the label, “Crónica L” wants to point towards the future and to all that, in spite of everything that was done, still remains to pursue. “Crónica L” is a sampling of a creative landscape to which Crónica contributes but that is far broader than its releases or even the artists it has so far released. Compilations are a genre that has been a special focus of interest for the label, since “On Paper” in 2003 to this most recent endeavor. They are perhaps the releases where, shy of an overview of the entire catalogue of 50 releases and even more podcasts, Crónica’s curatorial approach to publishing can be better understood.

“Crónica L” is freely distributed to all the subscribers of Neural magazine (issue #36, May 2010) and will not be sold through any of the usual distribution channels. However, we have a few copies to offer through a temporary promotion, please check how to get one here.

Lia releases a new iPhone app

Lia released her third iPhone art app, after PhiLia 01 and Arcs 21.

PhiLia 02 is about collaboration between the human and the machine, expressed through generative movement, form and color.

The human and the machine are collaborators in the creation of a unique art experience.

You can interact with the elements on screen, but the machine always suggests its own ideas to which you can respond using your intuition.

You can either set certain parameters yourself by accessing the Menu, or you can hand this responsibility over to the machine, which will randomly select parameters for you when you shake your device.

If you have the Trails switch ON, you will be rewarded for your experimentation with your own personal unique art piece. No created image will ever be the same. Store your favorite moments by accessing the Menu where you can save the image to your Photos.

With the Trails switch OFF you will simply see the elements floating through space.

This application has no other purpose or use then your joy. Please explore and playfully experiment with this art creation tool.

PhiLia 02 is available through the App store. More information at iphoneart.org.
