New @c release: “0°-100°” CD in Monochrome Vision

The new @c album, “0°-100°”, has just been released by Russian label Monochrome Vision. “0°-100°” presents composition #77, in 8 parts, composed by Miguel Carvalhais & Pedro Tudela in Porto, 2008-9 with recordings made in Helsinki, Nashville, Madrid, München, Palmela, Porto, São Miguel and West Bromwich, from 2005-9. The cover art is by Lia.

More information on this release can be found at @c’s or Monochrome Vision’s websites.

“Passeports” reviewed by Rockerilla

Passeports

“The Mediterranean Drift” reviewed by Rockerilla

The Mediterranean Drift

“The Mediterranean Drift” reviewed by Monsieur Delire

The Mediterranean Drift
Beautiful and troubling record from Israeli electroacoustician Ran Slavin, on a marine theme that can easily be interpreted through the geopolitical lens (the track titles already open that window). 43 minutes of rich drones, fuzzy moods and textural experiments ranging from nostalgia (the liquid facet) to sorrow (the grating facet). The best thing is that The Mediterranean Drift is released by the Crónica label as a FREE high-quality download.

“Shattering Silence” reviewed by Monsieur Delire

Shattering Silence
Mosaique is electronician Jan Ferreira, whose previously released Filare (2008) on Crónica. Shattering Silence is a bold proposition that tries to do too much. It’s simply too long at 1h43min, it would have been better edited down to an hour. Some of the tracks seem to present the same ideas, despite the fact that the sonic palette is rather large, encompassing highly experimental techno and rather abstract acousmatics. Ferreira’s artistic approach is serious, and what he does with analog synthesis has an interesting self-taught flair, but being too generous he has dulled the potential impact of this album. Still, please note that Shattering Silence has been released in Crónica’s free-download series. So download it and see for yourself!

New unlimited release: Ephraim Wegner’s “Audible Landscapes”

Audible Landscapes
Crónica is very proud to present a new release by Ephraim Wegner in the Unlimited Release series, “Audible Landscapes”. This release, comprising 6 pieces by Ephraim Wegner, and three remixes: “Sechsundachtzig (für Ephraim)” by @c and “Storm Synthesizer Remix” and “Earthquake Synthesizer Remix” by Durán Vázquez is available as a free download in either 320kbps MP3 or Apple Lossless formats.

Noises dispose of an aesthetic quality being taken up and evaluated far stronger than pictures by the unconscious. In a world where the immense flood of images has made individuals nearly deaf against acoustic stimuli, field recordings offer an unbelievable source of inspiration and imagination. The sound recordings sharpen and sensitise the hearing, reveal apparently well-known, pique curiosity on the unknown and the interest in quite concrete sceneries, in our environment with its tonal variety. As never congruent copies of an independently existing reality they play with the individual adaptation and cognition ability.

The field recordings taped between 2008 and 2009 at places like the Pyrenees, the Atlantic Sea or the Black Forest serve to Ephraim Wegner as basis for compositions of sound sceneries.

Typical tones of certain regions, but also omnipresent everyday noises are processed and edited, put on top of each other, distorted up to unrecognisability and assembled again. Thus musical sound fields / collages and new acoustic rooms are generated which invite to reflexion and abstracting or just listening: The apparently weird, but strangely melodic bell ringing of the flock of sheep in the Pyrenees reveals its musical structure which testifies to astonishing harmony. Heavy rains, thunder storm rumbling, wild buzzing of insects and shrill chirping of crickets mutate to tonal arrangements which remind of minimal music or classical noise every now and then. Everyday occurrences become unusual hearing experiences, the pasture land idyll rumbling wild noise.

You can download “Audible Landscapes” as high-quality MP3 or Apple Lossless files directly from Crónica and free of charge. Donations are welcome! :)
